1 oz Silver Route 66 Sign Stacker® Round
Route 66 reaches a major milestone in 2026: 100 years since the highway was officially designated. The Scottsdale Mint Route 66 Sign Stacker® 1 oz Silver Round marks the centennial with a .999 fine silver design based on the highway sign recognized by generations of American travelers.
The Route 66 shield gives the piece its distinctive profile, while checkered detailing introduces a nod to the automotive culture surrounding the historic road. Scottsdale Mint’s interlocking Stacker® technology completes the design, creating a functional silver piece made to connect with others in the series.
An American Road Sign at 100
Few road signs have developed an identity quite like Route 66. First designated in 1926, the highway ran approximately 2,400 miles between Chicago and Los Angeles, crossing eight states along the way.
Over the decades, the Route 66 sign became associated with far more than navigation. It came to represent long-distance drives, classic automobiles, roadside stops, and a period when traveling the highway was an experience of its own.
The shield remains at the center of Route 66 imagery today, making it a natural focus for a silver release commemorating the road’s centennial year.
Silver with an Automotive Influence
The shield shape is paired with checkered flag detailing, bringing an additional element of car culture into the design. The pattern draws from its familiar association with racing and motorsports while complementing Route 66’s connection to driving.
Struck in 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the piece incorporates Scottsdale Mint’s Stacker® technology. Multiple Route 66 Stackers® can securely interlock, and the 1 oz version is designed to connect with the 2 oz Silver Route 66 Stacker® as well.
The Route 66 Centennial
Route 66 was officially removed from the U.S. Highway System in 1985, but that did not end its place in American travel culture. Preserved stretches of roadway, historic signs, vintage service stations, diners, motels, and other roadside landmarks continue to draw travelers to the historic route.
The 1926–2026 centennial recognizes a century since Route 66 received its official designation. This 1 oz silver release commemorates that anniversary through two elements closely associated with the road: its unmistakable shield and American automotive culture.
