1 oz Silver Route 66 Sign Stacker® Round
In 1926, U.S. Route 66 was established as part of America’s developing federal highway system, connecting Chicago and Los Angeles across approximately 2,400 miles and eight states. A century later, the Route 66 shield remains one of the most recognizable symbols of American road travel.
The Scottsdale Mint Route 66 Stacker® 1 oz Silver Round commemorates the highway’s 100th anniversary in 2026 with .999 fine silver and Scottsdale Mint’s interlocking Stacker® technology. Shaped around the familiar Route 66 shield and accented with a checkered flag pattern, the design brings together two recognizable elements of American automotive culture.
A Route 66 Shield That Stacks
The distinctive Route 66 shield shape immediately recalls the highway signs that have marked the historic route for generations.
Scottsdale Mint’s Stacker® technology allows multiple pieces to securely interlock. The 1 oz and 2 oz Silver Route 66 Stackers® are also designed to interlock with one another, connecting both sizes within the same Route 66 series.
Checkered flag detailing adds an automotive element to the design, complementing the Route 66 shield and the highway’s longstanding connection to cars, driving, and American road culture.
Racing Meets Route 66
The checkered flag pattern draws from racing and motorsports, where it is traditionally used to signal the finish of a race. Paired with the Route 66 shield, it reinforces the automotive theme behind the piece.
Route 66 became closely associated with the growth of American car culture throughout the 20th century. Classic cars, cross-country drives, roadside stops, and the freedom of traveling the open road all became part of the highway’s identity.
100 Years of the American Road Trip
Route 66 traveled through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, connecting communities across the Midwest and Southwest before reaching Los Angeles.
As automobile travel expanded, Route 66 became a major part of the American road trip. Diners, motels, gas stations, neon signs, and roadside attractions developed along the route, creating an identity that remains closely associated with the highway today.
Although Route 66 was officially removed from the U.S. Highway System in 1985, portions of the historic road remain accessible. Its shield, roadside architecture, vintage service stations, and destinations such as Cadillac Ranch continue to represent an influential era of American travel.
The 2026 Route 66 Centennial marks 100 years since the highway’s designation, recognizing a road that continues to hold a distinctive place in American automotive and travel history.
